Yesterday I finished watching season 2 of "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" on Apple TV, and “fun ride” is honestly the best way to describe it. It’s one of those shows that pulls you in fast and keeps the pace moving, but still makes the story feel big and meaningful.
Before this, my exposure to the whole Godzilla universe was pretty limited—maybe one or two of the older Godzilla movies, and that was about it. So I went in mostly expecting giant monster action. What surprised me was how much the series gives you beyond the monsters themselves. It’s not just about what’s smashing what; it’s about the people, the decisions, and the ripple effects of living in a world where these things exist.
The world building is the real hook for me. It adds history, scale, and context in a way that makes the universe feel lived-in, not just stitched together for big set pieces. You get a better sense of what "Monarch" is, why it matters, and how everything connects, which makes the monster moments hit even harder.
And I have to call out the visual effects. They’re unbelievably good for a TV show—easily on the level of a lot of blockbuster movies. There were multiple scenes where I caught myself wondering what the budget was, because the quality is just that high. Everything looks polished and huge without feeling fake or rushed.
If you’ve only seen a couple of the older movies like me, this series feels like a great doorway into the wider Godzilla world. It’s entertaining, it looks incredible, and it gives the universe a depth I wasn’t expecting. Season 2 especially made me appreciate that this franchise can be more than monster mayhem—it can actually build a world you want to spend time in.
