There is something about One Piece the live action series from Netflix that makes it feel like nothing I have watched before. I have traditionally never been drawn to Manga or Anime for the very strong reason that the visual style simply never appealed to me. I would go so far as to say that it actually turns me off completely. Which meant I never really got to experience the stories that so many of these incredibly popular shows and comics were telling.

After two seasons of One Piece I really grateful that I get to experience these goofy characters on their wild and grand adventures. It's hard for me to describe what One Piece is really all about but what worked for me was the how endearing each of the main cast members are in their wonderfully weird ways. That weirdness permeates everything else as well, including the plots, the villains, and a host of side characters you meet along the way.

The production quality is top notch, and it has left me wanting a lot more. Will it ever make me want to actively seek out other anime? Probably not. But I am just happy that Netflix gave it the royal treatment it deserved.
